In 1946, at the age of 32, Lina Bo Bardi left for South America with her husband. It's a one-way trip. In Brazil, Bo Bardi will set up his home and build his second life. But it is in Italy, where she graduated in architecture at the school of Piacentini and Giovannoni and where she moves his first professional passages in the world of magazines, that outlines the themes and figures of his architecture. In her masterpieces - Casa de Vidro, MASP, SESC-Pompéia - as well as in the lesser-known buildings like theaters, churches, houses and outfits, are traces of a typically Italian humanistic rationalism that, blended with Brazilian "surrealism”, have given shape to rigorous and strongly expressive buildings. The book is a collective thought on the hybrid characters of Bo Bardi's architecture: a reading of her work, in the background of the Modernity crisis and the emergence of the new avant-garde, following the thread of an ethical and poetic vision of the project, centered on culture and popular arts.
Nel 1946, all’età di 32 anni, Lina Bo Bardi parte con il marito per il Sudamerica. È un viaggio di sola andata. In Brasile, Bo Bardi fisserà la sua dimora e costruirà la sua seconda vita. Ma è in Italia, dove si laurea alla scuola di architettura di Piacentini e Giovannoni e dove muove i primi passi professionali nel mondo delle riviste e del dibattito, che si delineano i temi e le figure della sua architettura. Nei suoi capolavori – Casa de Vidro, MASP, SESC-Pompéia –, così come nelle opere meno conosciute dei teatri, delle chiese, delle case e negli allestimenti, sono evidenti le tracce di un razionalismo umanistico tipicamente italiano che, mescolate con il “surrealismo” brasiliano, hanno dato forma a edifici rigorosi e fortemente espressivi. Il libro è una riflessione collettiva sui caratteri ibridi dell’architettura di Bo Bardi: una lettura della sua opera e del suo pensiero, sullo sfondo della crisi del Moderno e delle avanguardie storiche, seguendo il filo di una visione etica e poetica del progetto che ha posto al centro la cultura e le arti popolari.
