The essay explains the methodology of the research on the East sector of Rome who has chosen as analysis units 155 urban zones (Zone Urbanistiche – ZU) in which the city is divided. The research used a secondary analysis of statistical data referring to different sources (Istat, Statistical Yearbook of Rome, Electoral Office of Rome) relating to the years 1991-2012. In the essay are presented the two preliminary procedures for the classification of ZU, as indicated by theoretical references and by a preliminary observation of the data structure: 1. classification of ZU in five concentric circles (downtown, historic districts, historic periphery, in- GRA periphery, extra-GRA periphery); 2. classification of ZU in 4 sectors (North, South, East, West). The essay illustrates also the research strategies used to empirical analysis particularly through the use of ARCGIS 10.1 program, which allows data georeferencing.

Il saggio espone la metodologia della ricerca sul quadrante Est di Roma che ha scelto come unità di analisi le 155 zone urbanistiche (ZU) in cui la città è divisa. La ricerca ha utilizzato un'analisi secondaria di dati statistici tratti da diverse fonti (Istat, Annuario Statistico di Roma, Ufficio Elettorale di Roma) relativi agli anni 1991-2012. Nel saggio sono presentate le due procedure preliminari per la classificazione delle ZU, costruite in base ai riferimenti teorici e ad un'osservazione preliminare della struttura dei dati: 1. Classificazione della ZU in cinque cerchi concentrici (centro, quartieri storici, periferia storica, Periferia in-GRA, periferia extra-GRA); 2. Classificazione della ZU in 4 quadranti (Nord, Sud, Est, Ovest). Il saggio illustra anche le strategie di ricerca utilizzate per l'analisi empirica in particolare mediante l'utilizzo del programma ARCGIS 10.1, che consente la georeferenzazione dei dati.
