Giustino e le guerre macedoniche (con osservazioni sulla tendenza di Trogo)

This paper aims at analysing what Justin has to say about the wars between Romans and Macedonians. Roman awe of the Macedonians and the Romana fortuna have been interpreted as evidence of hostility to Rome. A close reading of the pertinent passages in Justin's Epitoma demonstrates that these themes do not imply any anti-Roman attitude. So, starting with the relation between Polybius, Livy, and Trogus, the paper investigates the origins of the historiographical myth of Trogus' hostility to Rome.

L'articolo analizza la testimonianza di Giustino sulle guerre macedoniche. Il timore dei Macedoni attribuito ai Romani e l'insistenza sulla Romana fortuna sono stati interpretati come prova di ostilità a Roma. Un'attenta lettura dei passi pertinenti nell'Epitome di Giustino dimostra che in realtà questi temi non implicano sentimenti antiromani. Così, a partire dall'indagine sul rapporto fra Polibio, Livio e Trogo, si indagano le origini del mito storiografico dell'ostilità a Roma di Pompeo Trogo.
