All accepted informations about a book, published by the architect Stern in 1784, are here carefully examined. The aim was to enhance the XVIII century interest towards Cinquecento architecture in Rome. Some of the results, deriving from new research in the archives, challenge what is generally accepted about the works promoted by pope Clemens XIV in the building.
