The paper reports the preliminary results of the research project finalized in the synchronic and diachronic study of Tuscan toponymy and in the creation of a digital archive using GIS financed by the Regione Toscana and carried out by the Centro Interuniversitario di Scienze del Territorio (CIST)in Florence and Irta Leonardo (Istituto di Ricerca sul Territorio e l’Ambiente) in Pisa. The research activity consisted in implementing the regional toponymy through an examination of the cartographic sources referring to three time periods (CASTORE, IGM, cadastre in force), intended as a support for future revisions of the Carta Tecnica Regionale (CTR), and in surveys or elaborations of cognitive frameworks involving themes relevant to the government of the territory. The present research, still at an initial stage, is conducted on an area of 22994 square kilometers, corresponding to 715 quadrants of the CTR on a 1:10.000 scale which covers the entire regional territory endowed with a thesaurus of toponymy and consisting of 205625 georeferred entities.

Abstract
The present research, still at an initial stage, is conducted on an area of 22994 square kilometers, corresponding to 715 quadrants of the CTR on a 1:10.000 scale which covers the entire regional territory endowed with a thesaurus of toponymy and consisting of 205625 georeferred entities.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
