Interdisciplinary parallel between Antonio Vieira's Sermon about slaves in sugarcane plantations in Bahia (XVII C.) and a series of photographic portraits by Vik Muniz (Brazil) of the children of sugarcane laborers in the Caribbean. A similar approach is used in both works: strong familiarity is shown with the subjects portrayed, and the same material itself - sugar - is used to ideally reverse their life conditions through similar oxymoric metaphors.

Abstract
Interdisciplinary parallel between Antonio Vieira's Sermon about slaves in sugarcane plantations in Bahia (XVII C.) and a series of photographic portraits by Vik Muniz (Brazil) of the children of sugarcane laborers in the Caribbean. A similar approach is used in both works: strong familiarity is shown with the subjects portrayed, and the same material itself - sugar - is used to ideally reverse their life conditions through similar oxymoric metaphors.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
