The Ordinary City concept has helped bring to the fore the weaknesses of an urban theory that was often accused to be too narrow, economic and ethnocentric, through the proposal of different visions and the call for a greater degree of justice and democracy in knowledge acquisition. The Ordinary City is a concept that represented the need for change which has been acknowledged by most of the research community. Hence, it is no longer a current research topic. In actual fact, the debate remains very much alive on the methodological aspects of research, with the intent of achieving the goal of post-colonial studies in the formulation of a more global urban theory.

Abstract

The Ordinary City concept has helped bring to the fore the weaknesses of an urban theory that was often accused to be too narrow, economic and ethnocentric, through the proposal of different visions and the call for a greater degree of justice and democracy in knowledge acquisition. The Ordinary City is a concept that represented the need for change which has been acknowledged by most of the research community. Hence, it is no longer a current research topic. In actual fact, the debate remains very much alive on the methodological aspects of research, with the intent of achieving the goal of post-colonial studies in the formulation of a more global urban theory.
