La tragedia e i confini del mondo. Limiti geografici e limiti linguistici

The main concern of the paper is the space of Attic tragedy; it is a connotated space, in so far as its description produces series of reflections between the actions on stage and other mythological narratives. The space relations are fundamental in the theatre: let us consider, for instance, the position of the characters on stage, the city where the action takes place, the oikoumene, the inhabited world, which is evoked by the characters' worlds and becomes an appropriate stage to dscuss the grat ethica themes of the tragedies. This is the case of Aeschylus' Prometheus Bound, a cosmic tragedy located at the boundaries of the world and open to the whole oikoumene through the description of Io's wanderings. Moreover, I have paid special attention to the terms for boundary and limit and to the different narration of Io's wanderings in the Suppliant Women. The comparison which other preserved tragedies aims at pinpointing the different functions of the boundaries of the world in Greek tragedy.

Oggetto dello studio è lo spazio costruito dai poeti tragici, che si presenta come uno spazio connotato, la cui descrizione crea una serie di rispecchiamenti tra la vicenda portata sulla scena e altre saghe mitiche. I rapporti di spazio sono essenziali nel teatro, a partire dalla posizione degli attori sulla scena fino alla città, in cui i drammi sono ambientati, e all'ecumene, la terra abitata che, evocata attraverso le parole dei protagonisti, diventa un palcoscenico appropriato pr affrontare i grandi temi etici proposti da alcune tragedie. Ciò avviene in particolare nel Prometeo di Eschilo, una tragedia cosmica ambientata ai confini del mondo, e aperta all'intero ecumene attraverso la descrizione del percorso di Io. Particolare attenzione è dedicata alla terminologia dei confini be del limite e anche alle differenze con il trattamento del viaggio di io nelle Supplici. Il confronto con le altre tragedie conservate mira soprattutto a individuarne le differenti funzioni al servizio delle quali vengono evocati i confini del mondo.
