Resource driven conflicts: a general Taxonomy

The resettlement process of metropolitan areas after the economic crisis of Seventies, determined social phenomena such as urban growth and human mobility. As a consequence, the neighboring coastal areas have faced structural changes. Such a kind of mutations, together with the fragile climatic equilibrium affecting coastlines, stress the coastal environment and its precious resources, often driving the interests at stake to clash and possibly to blow up into conflicts. Recently the European Union has shown interests in evaluating the impact of coastal management policies in conflict resolution in order to suggest appropriate institutional strategies. As a preliminary requirement, a classification of conflicts into typologies was needed. This paper aims at providing a broad classification of international conflicts, using a quantitative approach. The universal taxonomy here discussed is used as a framework for classifying some coastal conflicts of interest
