The essays in this volume are an important contribution to the study of Epicureanism: they are placed in a time of rebirth of interest in this philosophy. The studies are organized into several sections following the partition of Epicurus’s philosophy (canonic, physics and ethics) and including also essays on the textual tradition, as well as on the textual forms of text of the Epicurean works. The authors are specialists of Epicureanism: the international component and the presence of young scholars are the main feature of the volume, which is the result of a network of exchanges and debates inspired by the most genuine Epicurean philia. The peculiar characteristic of the collected contributions is the interdisciplinary nature of the contents and the methodologies, according to the firm belief that only an approach of this kind – which closely links philosophy and papyrology, literature and philology – may be crucial for the safe understanding of the Epicurean thought.
