Territorial disputes are a common source of armed conflict and war. The chapterl focuses on the question of whether public international law can be considered “as part of the problem”. It seems that the answer largely depends on the way in which ‘being the problem’ is defined. The author maintaines that while the rules of international law per se are not the direct cause of territorial claims or conflicts, their definition, application or interaction might be to a certain extent problematic.
