This study aims at identifying in classical Persian texts, especially of narrative, non-lyrical, poetry, one of the most noticeable features of the spoken or informal contemporary New Persian of Iran: the presence of subordinate clauses lacking a conjunction. At least as far as subordinate conditional clauses is concerned, the study shows that this feature, not recognized before, is widely attested.
