A collection of studies on the multifarious aspects of the work of Utpaladeva, which presents him as one of the most important philosophers of premodern India, by highlighting his contribution to philosophical, aesthetical and religious thought, and at the same time putting in the right perspective the towering figure of Abhinavagupta of whom Utpaladeva had been so far considered as a mere precursor.
