El Refranero multilingüe is designed to provide the translation of popular Spanish proverbs into all the languages of the Iberian peninsula and in the main European languages. The purpose of the database is to show the specificity of each language through the common European paremiological heritage, highlighting the semantic, cultural and functional differences of the proverbs. The essay describes the differences between Refranero multilingüe and previous multilingual dictionaries of proverbs and offers a detailed analysis of various degrees of equivalence between Spanish and Russian proverbs.
