As the title "Not everything, but many things on Social Statistics" indicates, this book does not claim to be a comprehensive overview on Social Statistics, but rather a field guide that takes the reader through the essential steps of conducting studies in the discipline. The book provides an overview of the sources and databases (register based or sample surveys) in the social area; the methodological and operational aspects of analysing sample surveys; the strategies that allow implementing the information through simple and composite indexes. In the final part, we illustrate our guidelines and strategies by applying them to two specific case studies: a content-oriented approach to “social exclusion” and the application of a statistical analysis of textual data, to obtain information from web statistical corpora.

Abstract
As the title "Not everything, but many things on Social Statistics" indicates, this book does not claim to be a comprehensive overview on Social Statistics, but rather a field guide that takes the reader through the essential steps of conducting studies in the discipline. The book provides an overview of the sources and databases (register based or sample surveys) in the social area; the methodological and operational aspects of analysing sample surveys; the strategies that allow implementing the information through simple and composite indexes. In the final part, we illustrate our guidelines and strategies by applying them to two specific case studies: a content-oriented approach to “social exclusion” and the application of a statistical analysis of textual data, to obtain information from web statistical corpora.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
