This article presents new trends in the use of audio and audiovisual technology in ethnomusicological research, from the pervasiveness of audiovisual documentation in contemporary research and dissemination in ethnomusicology, to the importance of sound archives. It discusses also the impact that new digital technologies and media, and audiovisual documentation have on research methods.
