La performance come lettura: il teatro di narrazione giapponese

Japanese storytelling is a narrative theatrical genre focused on a single artist, telling a story on a stage with a fixed and rather simple setting, and few stage tools. Of the various perfomarmative genres belonging to wagei (verbal arts), I take up as examples rakugo and kōdan, two subgenres made up the former of a comical repertory, the latter of plots inspired by historical sources. Over the centuries, the performance and the actor often came to be considered more than the text, which is shaped by the storyteller depending on the reading of Others he himself applies. His theatrical narrative is therefore shaped by his own reading of the repertoire, the audience, the atmosphere in the theatre, the foreign country in which he performs, and by the reading of the performance that the audience does.
