The volume examines the great classics of moral philosophy from Plato to Nietzsche and unfolds the various concepts and dimensions of ethics. Among them it shows the variety of models (ethics as knowledge, way of life, critique of society, reflective self-understanding), theories (natural law, sentimentalism, rationalism etc.), the nature of ethics (practical reasoning, moral psychology, the place or reality of ethics), the central philosophical notions (virtues, duties, rights, conscience, freedom), the relationship with the other spheres (politics, religion, aesthetics), the substantial contents (the taxonomies of virtues and duties, the conceptions of justice, of freedom, of what has values, of sexuality).
