Fier Region is situated in the south - west of Albania. It is bordered by Tirana region in the north, Elbasan in the north - east, Berat in the east, Vlora and Gjirokastra region in the south and the Adriatic Sea in the west. Fier Region covers 1.887 km ² and has a population of around 484.500. Around 60% of the population lives in rural areas.Fier Region is composed of 3 Districts: Fier, Mallakaster and Lushnja. It has 6 municipalities (cities), 36 communes and 276 villages. Diverse eco - systems and habitat resources, the beaches along the coastline, the high level of flora and fauna biodiversity, interesting geological constructions, Mediterranean climate, protected areas and nature monuments make the District of Fier attractive for domestic and foreign tourists.These natural monuments have precious natural, biological, geological, geo–morphological, hydrological, ecological, scenery, esthetical, didactical, touristic, and religious values, which in Albania are not very well known and moreover less valued from the responsible governmental authorities and respective decision-makers
