The preface presents and comments on the re-edition of two important works of poetry composed by Nanni Balestrini in the Sixties - the first is his debut book - and never re-edited, to which are added two works of the same period never published before: one of linear poetry obtained with an intransigent cut-up procedure, «Atlante», and one of verbovisual poetry realized with the collage technique starting from periodic printing clippings, «Carnevale 1965». The essay explains the relationships between the works, the compositional mechanisms, the thematic nodes, the experimental aspects and the aesthetic and political meanings of the four different works, all composed between 1961 and 1967.
