Tourism has become one of the most important instruments in the global urban competition. Cities and city-regions are currently used to attract people, business and international capital through the creation of new material and immaterial tourism resources. It is a new relationship that links city, culture and tourism, to whom firstly the territorial analysis and secondly the planning process have to give new answers. This paper analyses tourism policies and planning in Rome and Milan, in order to discuss some critical aspect of this new way to imagine and build the post-modern city.
