The essay reinterprets minor historical centers as living organisms that operate at a macro scale (historic centre and urban form) and a micro scale (artifacts in a process of preservation and reurposing) and proposes a methodological framework for transformation and upgrade, in a tight relationship between history, culture and technology, through processes of development that are not only a series of measures aimed exclusively at raising the economic value of land and buildings, but pursue the broader goals of redevelopment and the revitalization of the architecture, energy, social, economic and cultural contexts of the city to which they refer. An operation not simply of real estate development, building restoration, or to urban restoration, but a task that by tries, leveraging existing and potential resources, to answer the shortcomings of urban fabric and demands from the socio-economic context. In the light of possible reductions in energy consumption, reductions of harmful emissions, and the improvement of bioclimatic welfare, this may be achievable by upgrading the architecture and energy and environmental performance of minor historical centers. This requires research into transformation models, in relation to the two major problems affecting the city’s oldest structures and can be traced to two main models of intervention: the first model is strictly related to the technological sphere (i.e. related to the conservation of places and/or objects using methods and techniques for innovative restoration and environmental sustainability); the second model concernstransformation processes that attempt to reinterpret the repurposing of historical/cultural contexts local in order to attract new activities and interests.

Abstract
This requires research into transformation models, in relation to the two major problems affecting the city’s oldest structures and can be traced to two main models of intervention: the first model is strictly related to the technological sphere (i.e. related to the conservation of places and/or objects using methods and techniques for innovative restoration and environmental sustainability); the second model concernstransformation processes that attempt to reinterpret the repurposing of historical/cultural contexts local in order to attract new activities and interests.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
