Donizetti writes few but important scene without word, where music accompanies strictly any characters’ movement. This use of body and gesture synchronized with music generates a highly emotional theatrical communication very far from the rational communication through verbal language. Thanks to French melodrama this theatricality intertwines with ideals of universal communication, near to the new ideas of a theatre “pedagogical” of collective feelings.
Donizetti usa poche ma significative scene mute, in cui la musica accompagna passo passo i movimenti dei personaggi. Questo uso del corpo e del gesto in sincronia con la musica genera un tipo di comunicazione teatrale altamente emotivo e opposto alla comunicazione razionale della parola. Grazie all'influenza del mélodram francese, questo tipo di teatralità si sposa con istanze idealmente universali e perciò più facilmente utilizzabili per le nuove idee di "teatro educatore" dei sentimenti collettivi.
