Abstract

Introduction. Originally the word skyscraper was a nautical term indicating a tall mast on a sailing ship. A grain of etymological history is enough to suggest the metaphor of my project and to define its theme. Indeed, the basic idea is to think about the skyscraper as an architectural yard, an architectural mast, even as a real architectural tree. It peremptorily rises from the ground like a lighthouse, so it becomes an access, a door to the city. This building, [The “Colossus of Rome”, 2006),] with its strong uprightness, authoritatively talks to the whole of the urban fabric.
