Rodowód postaci pabitela

The paper deals with the genealogy of the well known Bohumil Hrabal's character named pábitel, pointing out similarities and differences between Hrabal's pábitel and Hašek's Švejk: both are plebeian characters, eccentrics, great talkers, who tell stories usually enlarging and exaggerating. Though typologically similar, the two characters are different in their relation to language: while Hrabal's pábitel is a language character, in Hrabal's own words an "instrument of language", whose substance is narration and whose existence is purely linguistic, for Hašek language is an instrument to characterize Švejk.
