Moreover, in maritime transport the large quantities handled and the dimensions of investments needed to upgrade ports and ships further amplify this factor. The key is the technological innovation contributing to provide with operational and infrastructural solutions usefule to face effectively these challenges.

Il fenomeno della globalizzazione, congiuntamente alla crescente integrazione in uno spazio unico del sistema europeo dei trasporti, incide a trecentosessanta gradi sull’assetto del sistema marittimo, richiedendo prestazioni sempre più estreme in termini di capacità, velocità, sostenibilità energetica e ambientale ed efficienza economica. Inoltre, nel trasporto marittimo le grandi quantità movimentate e le dimensioni degli investimenti necessari ad adeguare l’offerta (infrastrutture e naviglio) alla domanda, agiscono come ulteriore fattore amplificante.
