The changes introduced by this new worldwide paradigm make obsolete the current established communication paradigms, requiring the introduction of more exible intelligent models able to adapt to the system state.

Abstract
The Internet of Things is a modern paradigm that aims to create a world of smart objects able to communicate unobtrusively with each other and with humans to exchange information about their state, the surrounding environment and the interactions between both objects and users. This information is contextualized and customized in order to be transformed into cognitive content providing real benets for the users. In this work we present a collection of architectures and devices implementation in several application elds (cities, energy, domotics, supply chain, agriculture, health), analyzing the key challenges with which the scientic community has to deal and the enabling technologies that allow approaching the world of Internet of Things. This work also focuses on perspective oered by Internet of Things in in terms of research activities that need to be undertaken to address the issues and to develop systems that allow the implementation of the Internet of Things.
