The alarming state of conservation of Buddhist complexes in the Swāt Valley (Pakistan) calls the attention of the international community. This territory is subject of crisis because of social, political and religious reasons, and the Buddhist heritage is often point of assault and destruction. The research is especially focused on the site of Dara-Tokar 1, and its religious buildings that are in a state of neglect and decay; condition that causes not only lack of interest by the international culture, but especially by the country where the buildings are located. The best resources should work for a common goal to support legislative initiatives, protection policies, enhancement of the management processes, to provide a better protection of the cultural heritage and to ‘value’ the places.

Abstract
The alarming state of conservation of Buddhist complexes in the Swāt Valley (Pakistan) calls the attention of the international community. This territory is subject of crisis because of social, political and religious reasons, and the Buddhist heritage is often point of assault and destruction. The research is especially focused on the site of Dara-Tokar 1, and its religious buildings that are in a state of neglect and decay; condition that causes not only lack of interest by the international culture, but especially by the country where the buildings are located. The best resources should work for a common goal to support legislative initiatives, protection policies, enhancement of the management processes, to provide a better protection of the cultural heritage and to ‘value’ the places.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
