The history of modern cataloguing, the beginnings of which may be attributed to the end of the seventeenth century, has seen three different catalographic models alternate and often exist side by side: the inventory or checklist, the summary catalogue and the analytical or full scale catalogue (according to the usual classification of western ‘cataloguing science’).
