Il latino di Gallia e Virgilio grammatico tra ecdotica e linguistica storica

After considering the complex issues pertaining to the biography of Virgil the Grammarian, which are closely intertwined with the correct interpretation of his works, and summarizing many diverging perspectives in this respect, in this paper I offer a critical reappraisal of his language by discussing in detail some vulgar phonological, morphological, lexical and syntactic traits of his Latin. A deep analysis of the diaphasic variants attested in his works will shed considerable light on still vexing problems on his geographical and cultural origins.
