The Sicilian separatism spreads in the summer of '43 with the creation of the Provisional Committee for the Independence. In '44 when the island was returned to Italy by the Allies, and the State responded with decision to the demands of independence, there was an intensification of the struggle that was soon transformed into the opening of an internal front between the Italia Army and "guerrillas" of the independence’s army. Finally a secret negotiations was conducted between the State and the separatists which led to the granting of autonomy. And autonomy, often associated with federalism, is still at the center of a debate, in a historical period characterized by a growing distrust of the State and the birth of the movements for independence. As in Northern Italy, in Sicily began to spread awakening and timid pro-separatist sympathies.
Il separatismo siciliano si diffonde nell’estate del ’43 con la creazione del Comitato provvisorio per l’Indipendenza, portavoce delle aspirazioni del popolo siciliano. Quando nel ’44 l’isola fu riconsegnata all’Italia dagli Alleati, e lo Stato rispose duramente alle istanze di autonomia dei suoi abitanti, ci fu un inasprimento della lotta che si tramutò ben presto nell’apertura di un fronte interno tra il Regio Esercito e i “guerriglieri” indipendentisti; fu poi intavolata una trattativa segreta tra Stato e separatisti che avrebbe portato alla concessione dell’autonomia. E proprio l’autonomia, associata non di rado al federalismo, è ancora oggi al centro di un ampio dibattito, in una fase storica caratterizzata da una crescente sfiducia nei confronti dello Stato e dalla nascita di movimenti che rivendicano l’indipendenza. Come nel Nord Italia, anche in Sicilia iniziano a serpeggiare e a ridestarsi timide simpatie filo-separatiste.
