Premessa

The Anglo-Saxon chatting commonly translates in Italian with the word "chat", and that is the taste of the conversation "loose" and generally disengaged. However, some of the relationships established in the network can take root and achieve greater intimacy that transcends mere talk and relational discourse is continuous, despite its structural intermittently. The specificity of the exchange that takes place in the chat does not represent in any case a separate experience from all of the relational practices, emotional and fun of everyday life, but his articulation, just as full of meaning. And that contradicts, to some extent, the reduction of the other, of the stranger, to the bearer element of risk, including distrust, that played in the contemporary world. The contributions presented in this volume focus on various aspects of the relationship that is experienced in the chat. This form of communication is investigated in its essential aspects - language, identity, emotions, perception of space and time, location in the continuum between online and offline life - through reflections that accompany the presentation of the findings from a study conducted among students Faculty of Sociology and Communication Sciences, University of Rome "La Sapienza".

Il chatting anglosassone si traduce comunemente in italiano con il verbo “chiacchierare”, e cioè quel gusto del conversare “sciolto” e generalmente disimpegnato. Tuttavia, alcuni dei rapporti instaurati in rete possono radicarsi e raggiungere un’intimità maggiore, che trascende la semplice chiacchiera e si fa discorso relazionale continuativo, pur nella sua strutturale intermittenza. La specificità dello scambio comunicativo che si realizza nelle chat non rappresenta in ogni caso un’esperienza separata dall’insieme delle pratiche relazionali, affettive e ludiche del quotidiano, bensì una sua articolazione, altrettanto ricca di senso. E che contraddice, per certi versi, quella riduzione dell’altro, dell’estraneo, a elemento portatore di rischio, di cui diffidare, che tanta parte ha nella contemporaneità. I contributi presentati in questo volume si concentrano sui diversi aspetti della relazione che si sperimenta nelle chat. Questa forma di comunicazione è indagata nei suoi aspetti essenziali – linguaggio, identità, affettività, percezione dello spazio e del tempo, collocazione nel continuum tra vita online e offline – attraverso riflessioni che accompagnano la presentazione dei dati emersi da una ricerca condotta tra gli studenti delle Facoltà di Sociologia e di Scienze della Comunicazione dell’Università degli Studi di Roma “La Sapienza”.
