The aim of the Light Solar Dryier is to improve food transformation processes in developing countries through the production of small solar drying devices. Their goal is to reduce food waste and foster local economies through the marketing of correctly preserved products. It may also be used in self-production circuits, urban vegetable gardens and in short production chains. The project is the result of cooperation between two university research groups: the DATA Department has provided the skills required for the construction design of the desiccation equipment, the group is composed of Cecilia Cecchini (scientific director), Gianfranco Caruso, Daniele Durante, Susanna Mirza, Mario Raduazzo. The Department of Food Science University of Foggia has provided the skills regarding food transformation technologies, the group is composed of Carla Severini (scientific director), Antonio Derossi, Teresa De Pilli. The Light Solar Dryier was presented at the international meeting Agrindustrial Design, Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Fine Arts & Design, April 2012.
