The so-called Hague Fragment is a school exercise written in Latin, containing a historical account, of epic inspiration, concerning an episode of assault on a city, occupied by infidels. There are not extant similar texts within the Latin tradition, and the Fragment shows especially structural differences in front of the Latin historical poetry of IX-XI centuries; on the other hand, it differs in qualifying aspects but also from the preserved romance epic. It is suggested that it may be a reflection, in a school milieu, fed by classical literary culture, of the process of re-organization in poetical forms and in romance language of fragments of historical memory.

Abstract
The so-called Hague Fragment is a school exercise written in Latin, containing a historical account, of epic inspiration, concerning an episode of assault on a city, occupied by infidels. There are not extant similar texts within the Latin tradition, and the Fragment shows especially structural differences in front of the Latin historical poetry of IX-XI centuries; on the other hand, it differs in qualifying aspects but also from the preserved romance epic. It is suggested that it may be a reflection, in a school milieu, fed by classical literary culture, of the process of re-organization in poetical forms and in romance language of fragments of historical memory.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
