By taking as a starting point some useful comments advanced by Hans Jonas more generally about the Hellenistic age on the one side and more specifically about the Cynic movement on the other, this paper tries to explore the radical, critical and even ‘provocative’ attitude especially assumed by Diogenes of Sinope against any role or function of fortune (τύχη) in relation to the genuine and ‘authentic’ life conquered by the Cynic sage.
