The load bearing structure of the bronze monument Dying Horse by Francesco Messina consists of steel bars located inside the horse legs and by larger steel bars connected by soldering to the bronze plates of the basement, hidden inside the bronze pedestal and buried under it. The structure is exposed to the aggressive action of the humid soil and further put at risk due to the dangerous galvanic contact with the bronze. In order to prevent the corroded load-bearing structure from collapsing, it is therefore advisable to protect the individual steel components. The installation of a cathodic protection system by impressed current is proposed as an effective safeguard for the buried portion of the structure.

Abstract
The load bearing structure of the bronze monument Dying Horse by Francesco Messina consists of steel bars located inside the horse legs and by larger steel bars connected by soldering to the bronze plates of the basement, hidden inside the bronze pedestal and buried under it. The structure is exposed to the aggressive action of the humid soil and further put at risk due to the dangerous galvanic contact with the bronze. In order to prevent the corroded load-bearing structure from collapsing, it is therefore advisable to protect the individual steel components. The installation of a cathodic protection system by impressed current is proposed as an effective safeguard for the buried portion of the structure.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
