Itsuko Hasegawa, is perhaps the most sincerely Japanese contemporary Japanese architect, who, unlike many others of his generation, has not long undergone the fascination of the power of abstract thought that has dominated Western culture in the last five centuries and that only on the threshold of the twentieth century (Meiji, 1868) it began to "illuminate" that still feudal world, to influence its thinking and partly change the way of life of that peasant population, pushing it and supporting it in the process of modernization.
Itsuko Hasegawa, è forse l’architetto giapponese contemporaneo più sinceramente giapponese, che, a differenza di tanti altri della sua generazione, non ha subito a lungo il fascino del potere del pensiero astratto che ha dominato la cultura occidentale negli ultimi cinque secoli e che solo alle soglie del XX secolo (Meiji,1868) ha cominciato a “illuminare” quel mondo ancora feudale, a influenzarne il pensiero e cambiare in parte il modo di vita di quel popolo di contadini, spingendolo e sostenendolo nel processo di modernizzazione.
