In this paper, we consider the case of a spherical bridge built with an inviscid, incompressible liquid with density \rho. The study of the motion, which is assumed irrotational, is reduced to a variatonal equation on the function which gives the displacement of the free surface. We recognize that the stability of the equilibrium position depends essentially of the coerciveness of the bilinear form, which appears in this equation.

Abstract

In this paper, we consider the case of a spherical bridge built with an inviscid, incompressible liquid with density \rho. The study of the motion, which is assumed irrotational, is reduced to a variatonal equation on the function which gives the displacement of the free surface. We recognize that the stability of the equilibrium position depends essentially of the coerciveness of the bilinear form, which appears in this equation.
