A model is described which allows the simulation of the phenomena, in the warm season, leading to anoxia in lagoon water. The proposed model simulates both the hydrodynamic fields in lagoons due to external influences such as wind or inflows by tidal channels, and concentration fields (in the water column and sediment) of the chemical, physical and biological species significant in the description of the phenomena responsible for anoxia in water. The model was applied in the case of the Valli di Comacchio, to test the effect and influence of a separation dyke, with respect to the development of an anoxia crisis.

Abstract

A model is described which allows the simulation of the phenomena, in the warm season, leading to anoxia in lagoon water. The proposed model simulates both the hydrodynamic fields in lagoons due to external influences such as wind or inflows by tidal channels, and concentration fields (in the water column and sediment) of the chemical, physical and biological species significant in the description of the phenomena responsible for anoxia in water. The model was applied in the case of the Valli di Comacchio, to test the effect and influence of a separation dyke, with respect to the development of an anoxia crisis.
