This paper reviews recent advances in knowledge of the genus Malassezia. In the last decade there has been a dramatic increase in understanding the pathobiology of Malassezia including resolution of taxonomic and epidemiological problems, and an increased awareness of the diseases it causes in children, particularly in infants.
