The volume consists of a preface, in which are discussed three important aspects of the Eclogues: the poetic resonance, the shape and structure of the book, the rhetoric of divine models. A systematic introduction follows, in which they all the major canonical issues are addressed: the date of the work and the biography of the poet; the technique of bucolic characterization; Arcadia and Epicureanism and the various formal aspects of the bucolic book (title, order and structure, language and style, prosody); the trasmission of the text. Following are the text of the Eclogues with the translation of A. Traina and the philological commentary. The volume ends with the Indices (Names, Latin words, remarkable things).
Il volume si compone di una premessa, in cui vengono posti in luce tre aspetti rilevanti dell’opera: la poetica della risonanza; la forma e la struttura del libro; la retorica dei modelli divini. Segue una introduzione sistematica, in cui vengono affrontate tutte le questioni più importanti: la datazione dell’opera e la biografia del poeta; la tecnica di caratterizzazione bucolica; Arcadia ed epicureismo; i vari aspetti formali del libro bucolico (titolo, ordinamento e struttura, lingua e stile, metrica); la tradizione del testo. Segue il testo con la traduzione di A. Traina (per le divergenze fra traduttore e commentatore si vedano le pp. 85 e 87). Segue il commento filologico. Completano il volume gli Indici (Nomi propri, Parole latine, Cose notevoli).
