the goal in this paper is to give an overall picture of the main issues related to the sexual response which are covered by the big umbrella of psychology (cultural, developmental, intra-psychic, relational, contextual influences). We believe that having a broader view of the factors involved in normal sexual functioning is especially important in the context of a reference volume on sexual medicine, in which the reader's attention may be mainly caught by the dysfunctional aspects of sexuality and their treatment.
