The volume brings together contributions from teachers and experts engaged in teaching and research on issues of geography of the sea, with particular focus on the Mediterranean area, read and interpreted at different geographical scales. Italy, articulated in this context, is the privileged place of observation, the peninsula where the element of water can be seen as an environment of separation, almost impassable boundary, but also the connective tissue, the basis for the movement of people, trade and transmission knowledge. How to interface land - sea, coastal landscapes take on the connotation of area of convergence / divergence between populations and the expression of conflict for different uses of the land. The contributions present in the original volume offer reflections on these issues and stress related to the sea and, more generally, the question of the relationship between research and teaching.

Abstract
The volume brings together contributions from teachers and experts engaged in teaching and research on issues of geography of the sea, with particular focus on the Mediterranean area, read and interpreted at different geographical scales. Italy, articulated in this context, is the privileged place of observation, the peninsula where the element of water can be seen as an environment of separation, almost impassable boundary, but also the connective tissue, the basis for the movement of people, trade and transmission knowledge. How to interface land - sea, coastal landscapes take on the connotation of area of convergence / divergence between populations and the expression of conflict for different uses of the land. The contributions present in the original volume offer reflections on these issues and stress related to the sea and, more generally, the question of the relationship between research and teaching.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
