Italy: human mobility, urban changes, environmental conflicts

The chapter investigates the phenomena of urban changes and human mobility in the areas of Rome and Chieti-Pescara, in central Italy, with reference to the last twenty years. The focuses are on the processes of urbanization and the dynamics of population, permanent migration and temporary mobility, mobility and urbanization. The analysis of mobility provides a framework for the identification of conflicts between human action and the environment along the coastal areas. The existence of several environmental stresses and human pressures has been found in both areas. They are mainly due to social and economic processes which are not effectively organized and governed.
