Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina and the Italian culture of restoration

Franco Minissi's project accepts the cultural elaborations and translates into operation the Brandian reflections, firmly declaring itself to be one of the manifestos of "critical restoration". What Minissi meant was to reconfigure the environmental spaces relative to the various mosaics, to allow the visiting of the entire complex while eliminating passage over the mosaics, isolated from the offences of the atmosphere whilst not compromising their illumination, an to superpose new, contemporary materials over the existing structure that would express their utility and ensure by contrast, but without disharmony, the integrity of the structure. We are faced with ruins and mosaics, but also with a process of museum conversion that has been a model to follow all over the world.
