Starting from the colonial experience in the Horn of Africa belonging to history and cultural imagination, in particular the experience of the 1930s, this presentation aims at connecting the current state of Italian postcolonial affairs to the lack of a shared collective historical and cultural memory between Italy and colonized countries. The critical discourse in this article goes well beyond the merely literary critic analysis, which is not enough when dealing with the identitary references of a collectivity, not only fed by literature but also by other forms of cultural discourse. Moreover, one must keep in mind that the lack of a shared colonial history is also mirrored by the very use of the concept of “postcolonial”, lacking a multilateral consensus, right from its beginning as a historiographic category. The very idea of postcolonial “rereading” deserves to be taken into account with proper prudence, inasmuch it might reduce the critical potential of colonized people's voices and subordinate these voices—which might talk back—to the dominant voice of the colonizing subject, that is depriving them of an autonomous authoriality.

L'articolo affronta l'idea di ri-lettura nel caso delle scritture postcoloniali italiane utilizzando testi letterari, documenti storici e filmici degli ultimi venti anni.
