The Protestantism's presence during the French Revolution was very important. In the documents and in the sources of the period, in the words of that Protestants that had stuck to the Revolution, I have understood as their own religious faith, the civil battle and politics that they fought for the recognition of rights in France, has conditioned the revolutionary politics. But also as the message of equality of the Revolution it was able to intercept the religious sensibility of the "reformed" which could finally conquer the French citizen. A particular bending of this interaction was had in Italy, with the people valdese of the Piedmont: repressed by the Catholic majority, the valdesis saw in the revolutionary troops an element of strength to conduct their own battle of emancipation.

La presenza dell’elemento protestante durante la Rivoluzione francese fu molto importante. Nei documenti e nelle fonti dell’epoca, nelle parole di quei protestanti passati nel campo rivoluzionario è possibile cogliere quanto la propria fede religiosa, la battaglia civile e politica che in Francia si era combattuta per il riconoscimento dei propri diritti abbia veicolato l’adesione alla politica rivoluzionaria. Ma anche come il messaggio di uguaglianza della Rivoluzione fu in grado di intercettare la sensibilità religiosa dei riformati finalmente messi nella disponibilità piena della cittadinanza francese. Una particolare curva di questa interazione si ebbe in Italia, con il popolo valdese delle valli piemontesi da sempre tollerati o repressi dalla maggioranza cattolica che identificarono nelle truppe rivoluzionarie un elemento di forza per condurre la propria battaglia di emancipazione.
