Le problematiche ambientali hanno assunto un ruolo fondante nella cultura architettonica configurando a livello programmatico, progettuale, realizzativo e gestionale, interrelazioni specifiche già definite in parte nell'operatività concreta ed in via di consolidamento a livello teorico. La nozione di ambiente, ormai acquisita nei suoi aspetti di "complessità", si è progressivamente modificata dalla primitiva accezione puramente geografico-deterministica o estetizzante in quella attuale ecologico ambientalista con una conseguente forte accentuazione della sensibilizzazione ai temi ambientali. Tale sensibilizzazione comporta la consapevolezza che la degradazione dell'ambiente non può essere dissociata dal più generale processo programmatico decisionale, e quindi progettuale, e che deve tener conto della complessità dei problemi e delle loro forti interrelazioni. Il Dottorato in Progettazione Ambientale, attivato in Italia nella sede universitaria di Roma "La Sapienza", e ormai consolidato per storia e qualità riconosciuta, intende formare ricercatori esperti di problematiche ambientali nel settore disciplinare della Tecnologia dell'architettura, articolandone l'esperienza scientifica entro ambiti definiti utili alla definizione di strumenti e procedure per la programmazione, progettazione, realizzazione, gestione, monitoraggio e dismissione degli interventi di trasformazione ambientale secondo criteri di sostenibilità e in coerenza con gli obiettivi propri della ricerca universitaria e di istituti e enti pubblici e privati definiti a livello nazionale ed internazionale. [Il Dottorato in Progettazione Ambientale afferisce alla Scuola di Dottorato in Ingegneria Civile e Architettura] - ENGLISH - The Environmental Design (Progettazione Ambientale) PhD, started up in Italy in the unique premises of Rome University ’La Sapienza’, represents one of the peculiarities of its scientific offer. Consolidated for his history and his known quality, this PhD wants to form researchers experts in environmental problems in the disciplinary field of Architecture Technology and it articulates scientific experience into specific contests like planning, from a territorial scale to a finish product, environmental conservation, reclamation and rehabilitation according to goals fixed by university research, institutions and public and private centres at national and international level (EU, MIUR, C.N.R., Min. LL.PP, Min. B.A.C., Local Administration, environmental programming and control organisms etc.). The PhD’s main target is to train Research Doctors with expertise referring to the varied aspects of environmental fields, like principles and methodologies appropriated to define strategies to control environmental transformation processes, environmental reclamation and rehabilitation, sustainable urban settings planning. In relationship with these themes, operative aspects of theoretic research, such as planning instruments verification in a real environmental and productive context as well as the relative optimization of results through specific analytic procedures of evaluation and selection of available solutions, appear quite uncovered. In this direction we want to delineate new articulations of the design project, useful to construct new arrangements, physical-spatial configurations and eco-efficient materials, corresponding with the general goals of built-up sustainable areas: from this point of view, technological innovation and environmental quality are the two terms on which evolution processes and built-up space transformation have to be founded, whether in new edification planning or in existing buildings reclamation and upgrading. These two terms contribute to reach a fully critical proposal upon significance and centrality of architectural techno-morphological aspects and upon new landscape-environmental layout construction. It brings to acknowledge urban layout designing standards as an open space of material, energy and information exchange, and eco-efficiency as the central idea of approaching development and low energy products planning in a systemic way. In this picture, and in the complex relationship between the artificial and the natural, designing research initiates new environmental balance modalities between human transformations and ecosystems: Environmental Design PhD individuates and defines methods and instruments to address and control human settlement planning and to form and define the landscape.
