The paper explores two crucial moves which are to be found in Stanley Cavel's philosophy in connection to the establishment of an alternative tradition in analytic ethics: the appeal to language as part of the human forms of life; the appeal to the role of the individual contribution to language and to the larger field of the orms of life.
