This research aims at reconstructing the image of Rome that was conveyed to the Chinese during the Ming and Qing dynasties through a number of geographic works and travel diaries. The former were mainly written by foreigners living in China, while the latter were composed by the first Chinese who had the chance to see the western world with their own eyes. The careful and sistematic collection of such sources will help us to undestand how the Chinese perception about Rome changed during almost four centuries and who actively contributed to modify it.

Abstract
This research aims at reconstructing the image of Rome that was conveyed to the Chinese during the Ming and Qing dynasties through a number of geographic works and travel diaries. The former were mainly written by foreigners living in China, while the latter were composed by the first Chinese who had the chance to see the western world with their own eyes. The careful and sistematic collection of such sources will help us to undestand how the Chinese perception about Rome changed during almost four centuries and who actively contributed to modify it.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
